A direct cremation is a *lower cost, modern, alternative to a traditional funeral – without a formal ceremony. This means it is free from certain aspects such as a priest or celebrant, there are no limousines or flowers and there are no attendees present.
*Lower Cost: The SunLife Cost of Dying report, 2024, shows that direct cremations are the lowest cost. A traditional funeral will cost an average of £4,141, whereas a Memoria funeral plan costs as little as £1490. Source: Funeral Costs – Cost Of Dying Report 2024 | SunLife | SunLife
Direct Cremation has become a popular option, with people looking for a bit less fuss and wanting to move away from traditional church services.
Direct cremation can help separate the farewell ceremony (celebration of life) from the cremation, allowing families the time and space to arrange their own special celebration of life event.
Because the celebration of life occurs after the ashes have been collected or returned, it gives the family time to plan something truly memorable.
Although Direct Cremation is a *lower cost alternative to a traditional funeral- It is very much still a considered choice and offers several benefits:
Our team is available 24 hours a day to ensure we are there for you when you need us. Call 0800 007 3580 and let us know.
We will collect the deceased and take care of them at our own mortuary facilities until the agreed cremation date.
The cremation will take place at one of our own award-winning Memoria crematoriums or somewhere of your choice depending on your plan. We can take care of everything for you, including all paperwork and the removal of pacemakers.
Depending on the plan you have, you can either collect the ashes or have them hand delivered back to you. Alternatively, we can arrange the ashes to be scattered at one of our beautiful crematoriums.
Arranging a celebration of life can be as basic or extravagant as the person wants it to be. There are no rules to follow and everything – down to the choice of venue, food and music can be chosen way in advance.
From a family meal at home or at a favourite restaurant, to scattering the ashes somewhere special, to even blasting the ashes into space – the possibilities for a celebration of life are nearly endless.
Stephen was brilliant. We had the initial chat then I told him I’d got terminal cancer. No gushing sentiments just straight forward talk and advice with appropriate humour thrown in on both sides.
Memoria was the first place I rang and I was so impressed with Stephen’s knowledge and understanding that I didn’t bother researching any other companies in the 4 days grace we agreed that I would think about it.
He phoned me back 4 days later, just as agreed, and I signed up.
